The Queensland Police Service Medal  was introduced in 1999 to recognize the Diligent and Ethical service by QPS members and is not granted as a right by virtue of long service. In 2009 the Commissioner approved a change in the eligibility criteria for the award to be made available to living former members who served in the QPS before the introduction of the QPSM.
