Instituted in 1930 to take over from the Colonial Auxiliary Forces Long Service Medal to all Auxiliary Military Forces in which service was rendered in a full-time or part-time capacity.  It was awarded to Warrant Officers, non-commissioned officers and OR's who had completed 12 years "efficient" service.
 
Bars are awarded for subsequent service in 6 year periods.
